A man, armed with what seemed to be a gun, barricaded himself inside a local business on Scotland Boulevard, threatening to turn the normally peaceful community into a site of violence and fear. Through a swift and coordinated response by law enforcement, the man was safely taken into custody, and an investigation into the incident is underway according to Bridge Water Police Department.

At approximately 9:50 a.m. today, Bridgewater Police Department, aided by Bridgewater State University Police, responded to reports of the man allegedly holding someone hostage in an office at the business. Within mere minutes, a perimeter was established, and the Crisis Negotiation Team and the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council Special Response Team were both summoned in an attempt to manage the escalating situation as stated in Bridge Water Police Department report.

Thankfully, the man, later identified as Carl Lawrence, a 53-year-old resident of Bridgewater and known to the business employees, soon after surrendered the weapon - determined to be a pellet gun - but refused to exit the premises. It took the persistence of the officers on scene who established communication, later subduing Lawrence without further incident, and placing him into custody by 10:20 a.m. according to Bridge Water Police Department.
