A 26-year-old local barber, Emmanel Torres Plaza, was tragically killed on Saturday night in Central Falls, R.I., only days after his alleged killer, 39-year-old Luis Lopez, was released from prison according to the Boston Globe.
Torres Plaza was shot multiple times as he closed his shop, True Stylez, for the night, and was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect, Luis Lopez, was said to have lain in wait in a parking lot for about an hour before the attack. According to The Providence Journal, Lopez and Torres Plaza knew each other, and though local police are said to be aware of an issue between the two, they have declined to elaborate on the matter.
In an unsettling attempt to evade justice, Lopez proceeded to set fire to his getaway car about an hour after the murder, which led to his eventual capture. Upon his arrest in Plainville, Massachusetts, he was found in possession of two guns, a bulletproof vest, gloves, and a mask as reported by ABC6. Lopez had recently completed a 15-year prison sentence in Massachusetts for his role in a 2007 killing in Foxborough.
