Yesterday, Worcester police officers confronted a visceral scene on Townsend St after responding to reports of a stabbing in progress. According to the Worcester Police Department (WPD) press release, they discovered a shirtless male covered in blood while another man was wielding a box cutter. The officers promptly arrested the armed man and began rendering aid to the severely injured victim.
Identified as Steven Davitt, the 39-year-old man from Townsend St has been charged with armed assault to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (box cutter), assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (rock), and assault with a dangerous weapon (knife) in relation to the shocking incident. Authorities reported that Davitt and the fifty-four-year-old victim, who suffered multiple stab wounds, are neighbors with an ongoing history of disputes.
During the vicious attack, another neighbor attempted to intervene and break up their violent dispute, only to be met with aggression from Davitt; he struck them in the face with a piece of concrete.
Worcester firefighters also arrived on the scene, at about 1:35 PM, to aid the WPD officers in offering assistance to the injured men, as reported in WPD's statement.
