The San Diego Border Patrol and Mexican authorities have intensified their joint operations in an effort to dismantle transnational criminal organizations operating along the San Diego/Tijuana border. Their focus according to a recent statement from U.S. Customs and Border Protection is to address human smuggling and ensure the security of border communities.

San Diego Sector Border Patrol and Mexican authorities, including Instituto Nacional de Migracion, Guardia Nacional, and Secretaria de La Defensa Nacional, are working in tandem to beef up near-border patrols, while sharing crucial information to effectively combat illicit activities and uphold lawful immigration. This dedicated unity signifies a mutual commitment to dismantle criminal organizations engaged in human smuggling.

These operations aim to apprehend smugglers exploiting individuals seeking illegal entry into the United States, disrupt criminal activities and slow the flow of migrants. A recent win for these coordinated efforts resulted in, the arrest last week of two suspected cartel members in Mexico armed with an assault rifle in proximity to the Otay Mountain Wilderness Area, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Chief Patrol Agent Patricia D. McGurk-Daniel emphasized the potentially hazardous scenarios migrants might face at the hands of these criminal organizations. "Transnational criminal organizations often put migrants' lives at risk around the shared U.S. / Mexico border. This collaboration signifies our joint commitment to confront human smuggling's grave challenges. We're working tirelessly together, to dismantle the criminal organizations and keep people safe," said McGurk-Daniel.
