Yesterday, Tiffany Jenkins, a 35-year-old former airline gate agent from Chelsea, was sentenced in a federal court in Boston for abusing her position to convert low-cost flights to more expensive flights and destinations for friends, family, and acquaintances, according to a release by the Justice Department.

Jenkins was sentenced to one day in prison, to time served; she will also face 18 months of supervised release, with the first three months under curfew. She previously pleaded guilty to three counts of wire fraud in October 2019.

The fraudulent activity took place over the course of 15 months, from approximately July 1, 2016, through September 27, 2017. Jenkins executed some 505 involuntary ticket exchanges for more than 100 different passengers during this time. Many of those exchanges involved a passenger's initial booking on a domestic flight at one of the airline company’s lowest-available fares, usually round-trip flights between Las Vegas, Nevada, and Long Beach, California. Jenkins would then swap those tickets for a completely different city pair, generally involving more costly international locations.
