A major four-alarm fire erupted in Dorchester yesterday, causing extensive damage to multiple buildings and displacing 35 residents, including one firefighter who sustained minor injuries. According to the Boston Globe, the fire began at the rear of a triple-decker residence on 31 Holiday Street around 3:30 p.m. Eventually, the blaze reached neighboring buildings, engulfing five homes in total.
The fire's rapid progress led to the collapse of the rear porches of 37 Holiday Street, as reported by the Boston Herald. The efforts of teams from Boston Fire Department, however, managed to quell the destructive flames, preventing further damage to adjacent homes.

The aftermath left tenants from three buildings homeless, with three dogs and one cat also displaced. Moving swiftly, the Red Cross, Neighborhood Services, and the Massachusetts Office for Victim Assistance coordinated efforts to provide these displaced residents with temporary housing on the very same night. The well-being of those affected remains top priority for the city.
The cause of this devastating fire is still being investigated by the fire investigation unit. Throughout the night, firefighters remained on-site, monitoring hot spots to prevent any further flare-ups or damage. Traffic in the surrounding area was temporarily disrupted due to the fire, with the Boston Police Department closing Geneva, Westville, and Bowdoin streets to ensure safety.
