A Boston police officer suffered non-life threatening injuries in a daring attempt to stop a runaway car after a crash in Allston yesterday, according to WHDH.
The officer was responding to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of North Harvard and Cambridge Streets when he noticed one of the vehicles, a Red Subaru, suddenly slipping into gear and rolling towards a busy intersection. As reported by WCVB, the officer courageously jumped into the moving car in an effort to stop it. Despite these valiant actions, the Subaru continued to gain momentum, dragging the officer along until it crashed into a pole at a nearby Shell gas station. The officer was subsequently transported to the hospital for treatment.
As this incident unfolds, North Harvard Street was closed for several hours while officials investigated the cause of the initial collision and the circumstances that led to the Subaru's unexpected movement according to WHDH. The investigation aimed to determine whether any mechanical issues contributed to the incident and urged for lessons to be learned in hopes of improving road safety measures and preventing similar events from occurring in the future.
