An individual at Boston University was attached in an attempted robbery on Saturday. The incident, which occurred near the intersection of Cummington Street and Comm Ave, near Warren Towers dormitory, reportedly involved four to six young men who approached a student and punched them in an effort to steal their backpack according to CBS News.
The student was fortunately able to escape, and Boston University police responded swiftly, albeit unsuccessfully in their search for the assailants. The university's police department is actively investigating the case and urges anyone with information to come forward by contacting them at (617) 353-2121 or by texting 'BU' to 847411 for anonymous submissions as detailed by Boston University.
This unsettling episode follows an earlier warning by Boston University police about a series of burglaries that took place during the university's move-in week including one incident in which a man was still in a female students dorm room.
In light of these events, Boston University police urge the campus community to take certain precautions to help ensure their safety.
Students are advised to comply with assailants' demands for their property, walk in well-lit areas and travel together in groups, especially at night.
Additionally, they advocate for programming the BU Police emergency number (617) 353-2121 into cell phones, trusting one's intuition, and relying on Scarlet Safe Walk or public transportation when necessary.
