Earlier today, 37-year-old Catherine Leavy pleaded guilty in a federal court in Boston for placing a hoax bomb threat against the renowned Boston Children's Hospital in August 2022.
The threat made by Leavy on August 30, 2022, prompted immediate action from authorities, placing the hospital on lockdown and deploying a bomb squad for a thorough search of the premises. Fortunately, no explosive devices were found, but the turmoil it caused cannot be understated. As Leavy admitted, she called in the threat without any plan or intention to inflict harm, but the psychological impact on the hospital, its staff, and families cannot be dismissed.|
According to the U.S. Department of Justice report, during the on-scene interview with law enforcement, Leavy expressed disapproval for the hospital on multiple occasions.
As the legal proceedings unfold, Leavy faces charges with significant ramifications. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the charge of making a false bomb threat alone bears the potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. The secondary charge for intentionally conveying false or misleading information could result in up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.
