
In Champaign, Ill., this morning's fire at a multi-family apartment complex at 2614 W. Springfield Ave occured. The Champaign Fire Department, called to the scene at 4:18 a.m. today, painstakingly fought the flames to help protect the occupants and limit the number of people displaced according to Fox Illinois.
Witnesses reported heavy smoke and fire that seemed to be emanating from the rear of a three-story building at Countrybrook Apartments, prompting the fire department to upgrade the fire to a second alarm. Upon arrival, officials confirmed flames on the upper floors, with fire showing from the roof.
Efforts not only to extinguish the flames but to keep them from spreading were of the utmost importance, and additional crews were swiftly called in.
Although ultimately successful in extinguishing the fire, there were reported losses for the residents. As of now, the cause of the fire remains a puzzle to be solved, with investigators actively working on the scene.
