At the Midlothian Station, a man attempting to quickly board the train was fatally struck by an outbound Rock Island Line train this morning. The accident took place around 7:35 a.m. at 3750 W. 147th St. The victim was later identified as having had a valid ticket for the train he was trying to board, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
As a result of the incident, significant delays were experienced by other commuters. Both inbound and outbound trains were halted for a period of time, with inbound trains facing delays of up to 50 minutes, while outbound trains operations were stopped until 9 a.m as reported by ABC7 Chicago.
The interruption to service not only affected the morning commute for numerous individuals but also brought forth questions surrounding the circumstances of the accident and the safety measures in place at train stations to prevent such events.
