Robert Crimo III stands accused of the heinous mass shooting, while his father, Robert Crimo Jr., faces charges of reckless conduct over vouching for his son in the process of obtaining firearms.
According to Chicago Tribune, Judge Victoria Rossetti who presides over Robert Crimo III's case has set December 11th as the date to decide upon the commencement of his trial. Robert Crimo III allegedly perpetrated a mass shooting spree on July 4, 2022, during the Highland Park Independence Day parade, resulting in the loss of seven lives along with dozens of other people injured.
Investigative reports and material related to the case have been pouring in, with the prosecutor's office having transferred an additional 10,000 pages to Crimo III's defense team from the Lake County public defender's office since the last hearing. As reported by WTTW News, discovery evidence is expected to be completed by December, and various records from hospitals that treated the victims are being scrutinized.
While Robert Crimo III is held in lieu of bail on charges including seven counts of first-degree murder and numerous other felonies connected to the mass shooting, his father faces a separate trial. Robert Crimo Jr., who is currently out on bond, is slated to stand trial this November on charges of reckless conduct. These charges stem from the father's decision to vouch for his underage son on state forms in 2019, effectively allowing him to purchase firearms.
The intertwining of the two trials is further complicated by the possible involvement of Crimo III as a witness in his father's trial.
