Chicago Fire Department truck crashed into a residential home on the South Side, leaving two occupants displaced. The shocking incident took place shortly before 10 p.m. on Monday in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood, according to the Chicago Tribune.
As the firetruck sped southbound on Damen Avenue in the 7700 block, it suddenly veered off course, causing it to collide with the front of a residence that has been home to Herman Campbell and his granddaughter for more than three decades. Fortunately, no one was harmed during the calamitous event, but the ongoing investigation has yet to reveal the cause of the accident.
Campbell recounted the moment of impact to ABC 7 Chicago, likening it to the sound of a tornado roaring outside his window, followed by the deafening crash: "I was sitting watching TV when all of a sudden, I heard a loud sound, boom. It happened so fast I didn't have a chance to do nothing but roll with the punches."
Investigators have yet to determine whether weather conditions may have played a role in the crash, or if the firetruck was responding to an emergency call during its course.
