Yesterday, the 28-year-old Pasadena resident Daylan Lamont Camp received a nine-year prison sentence for charges related to the sex trafficking of a 14-year-old girl back in the fall of 2020.

What began as a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in November 2020, snowballed into a multi-agency undercover operation that uncovered an advertisement for the underage girl offering commercial sex in San Diego, according to the Department of Justice.

A key element disclosed was the multiple commercial sex advertisements found on various websites, showing photos of the 14-year-old girl throughout Southern California, including Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and San Diego. Heeding the call from the NCMEC, HSI teamed up with the San Diego Human Trafficking Task Force and ultimately managed to recover the girl as well as an adult woman who, too, was engaging in commercial sex at the hotel.

In November 2022, Camp entered a guilty plea to a single count of Conspiracy to Engage in Sex Trafficking of Children. The federal court's verdict stems from Camp's admission of discussing with an adult female how the 14-year-old should engage in commercial sex acts. To execute their reprehensible plan, the duo obtained hotel rooms, arranged transportation, and created advertisements for the minor, eventually leading her to San Diego where these illicit acts occurred.

Acting U.S. Attorney Andrew Haden denounced the heinous nature of sex trafficking, acknowledging the far-reaching impact on the lives of children, often extending to long-lasting physical and psychological trauma.
