
Yesterday, a vigilant community member in Carlsbad reported a possible drug activity involving occupants of two cars. Officers responded promptly, leading to arrests and the discovery of potentially illicit acts linked to identity theft. According to the Carlsbad Police Department, the tip resulted in the discovery of various drugs, fraudulent identification documents, and equipment for producing counterfeit credit cards.
When officers Teyechea and Martin conducted a records check, they found out that both the man and the woman involved had prior arrests. As the investigation continued, officers searched the woman's car first, finding an assortment of drugs. They moved on to the man's car, where a large quantity of fraudulent driver's licenses, passports, and IDs were discovered, along with falsified paystubs, paychecks, DMV paperwork, and tax paperwork that did not belong to him.
Beyond the falsified documents, police also found a credit card reader, templates for producing credit cards, multiple printers, laptops, and even a book of receipts. Upon further investigation, officers Teyechea and Martin identified over 45 potential victims of identity theft.
The diligence and meticulous work of both officers allowed for the male suspect to be arrested on numerous fraud-related charges, while the female suspect faced drug-related charges.
