This Wednesday, a harrowing incident unfolded on the streets of Hartford, Connecticut. A speeding car, which authorities say was fleeing a traffic stop, collided with a police cruiser, killing one officer and leaving another injured KTVZ reports.
Officer Bobby Garten, an eight-year veteran of the Hartford Police Department, paid the ultimate price in the line of duty, tragically losing his life as a result of the collision. Grieving over their loss, Hartford Police Chief Jason Thody described Garten as an "amazing person that exemplified what it means to be a Hartford Police Officer" whose "commitment to serve was above reproach, as cited by WPRI.
Officer Brian Kearney, who was also injured in the crash, is receiving medical attention and is said to be in stable but under guarded condition. Both officers were responding to an unrelated call when the dreadful event unfolded, their cruiser wrecked by the force of impact.
The driver responsible for this devastating chain of events has been apprehended, although specific details surrounding the individual have not been made public. A procession of police vehicles transported the fallen officer's body from the hospital to the chief medical examiner's office in Farmington yesterday, September 7th, WPRI noted.
