Early this morning, a dispute led to a chilling scene on a CTA Red Line platform, where a passenger was critically wounded by gunfire, according to ABC 7 Chicago.
The incident took place near the Garfield CTA station in the 200-block of West Garfield Boulevard, and NBC Chicago states, the victim was inside a train car when the shots were fired. Witnesses reported hearing at least five shots. Authorities assessed the CTA's security footage for a deeper understanding of the violent encounter that played out. CTA officials indicated that the footage does corroborate witness accounts, capturing the victim's critical injury sustained on the platform following the purported disagreement.
The victim, uncooperative with law enforcement, finds themselves in critical condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
No arrests have been made.
Violence on public transit is certainly not a new phenomenon in the city of Chicago. To quell the rising tide of crime on CTA properties, last year saw an increase in police patrolling these areas, as reported by ABC 7 Chicago.
