A 60-year-old man lost his life while drag racing on Sheridan Road in Beach Park, Illinois. The incident unraveled on Sunday afternoon around 3:45 p.m., when the man in a Ford Mustang found himself neck-and-neck with another driver in a Mazda 3 sedan, according to a FOX 32 Chicago report.
Jurisdiction fell to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, who swiftly responded to the scene and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this calamitous collision. The incident occurred at the intersection of Sheridan Road and Yorkhouse Road, where the Mustang driver lost control and collided with a Honda SUV unsuspectingly making a left turn. The woman driving the Honda suffered minor injuries, and the driver of the Mazda, while not directly involved in the collision, remains under scrutiny due to his participation in the dangerous drag race.
Attempts to save the driver of the Mustang were ultimately futile, as first responders transported the critically injured individual to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan where he was later pronounced dead according to another Country Herald report.
