The arrest of Misty Vantine (DOB 02/19/1978) on suspicion of mailing a letter soaked in liquid methamphetamine to a county jail exposes the risks some individuals are willing to take, as well as the challenges faced by the authorities.
On August 23, deputies at the Sheriff's Mail Processing Center (MPC) detected a suspicious letter intended for an individual in a detention facility, appearing to have been soaked in an unknown substance, as reported by the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. The letter was subsequently tested and found to be drenched in liquid methamphetamine, thus leading to its seizure as evidence.
Further investigation by the Sheriff's Detention Investigations Unit (DIU) suggested that Vantine was responsible for sending the hazardous letter. On September 8, she was apprehended in the parking lot of the George Bailey Detention Facility in Otay Mesa. A subsequent search of her vehicle led to the discovery of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, making the seem case crystal clear.
She was booked into the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility on multiple charges, including bringing drugs into a jail, attempting to sell a controlled substance to an incarcerated individual, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
