Yesterday, a traffic stop in Dorchester led to the arrest of Jonathan Mena-Hernandez, who was charged with various firearm and drug-related offenses after officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) discovered two firearms and drugs in his vehicle.
This incident occurred just hours before officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested a 13-year-old juvenile for possession of a firearm following reports of a person carrying a gun in the same neighborhood, according to the Boston Police Department.
Mena-Hernandez's arrest points to the potential intersectionality between drugs and firearms as officers reported finding cocaine and crystal meth in his possession alongside the weapons.
On the other hand, the arrest of a 13-year-old, indicative of systemic issues, emphasizes the need for broader community action in curbing gun violence and access to firearms. As reported by the Boston Police Department, the juvenile was found with a Hi-Point C9 Luger, illustrating how accessible firearms can be even for young people.
