El Cajon police recently utilized automated license plate reading (ALPR) technology to recover four stolen vehicles and arrest four individuals, including a man suspected of child abuse.

According to a news release from the El Cajon Police Department, the ALPR system's ability to detect stolen or wanted vehicles from state and national databases enables law enforcement to track and apprehend suspects more efficiently.

Police arrested 24-year-old Jason Cruz when ALPR alerts led them to a stolen 2020 Honda Civic and discovered his pre-existing auto theft warrant.

Additionally, 26-year-old Khalil Williams and his passenger, 41-year-old Victor Fernandez, were arrested for auto theft and a child abuse warrant, respectively.

Police also detained 37-year-old Arthur Jones following the recovery of a stolen 2005 Chrysler Pacifica.
