Englewood in Chicago's South Side suffers through a string of armed robberies. According to a recent Chicago Police Department (CPD) community alert, these incidents have occurred in the month of September and have left residents shaken and disturbed.
In each incident, the offender, described as one or two African American males aged between 15 and 30 years old, approaches the victim on foot and brandishes a black handgun. After demanding the victim's property, the assailant or assailants swiftly flee the scene. Notably, the robberies have occurred in the general geographical locations and timings mentioned below:
- 6800 Block of South Ashland Ave on September 16, 2023, at 9:00 PM
- 6800 Block of South Ashland Ave on September 16, 2023, at 9:30 PM
- 6800 Block of South Justine Street on September 17, 2023, at 1:00 AM
In response to these incidents, the CPD has issued guidelines for residents, urging them to be aware of their surroundings, report any suspicious activity immediately, and dial 9-1-1 on being confronted by an assailant.
Moreover, the police emphasize the importance of remembering unique physical characteristics of the assailant, such as scars, limps, or noticeable dental features. They also advise against pursuing a fleeing assailant, with the focus on sharing this vital information with law enforcement instead. Additionally, video surveillance footage and witness contact information can play a crucial role in helping the investigating detectives bring the offenders to justice.
