A house fire in a Mira Mesa neighborhood on Friday has resulted in one fatality and displaced six others. The fire broke out around 6:30 p.m. in the 11400 block of Eridanus Court. Black smoke was visible shortly after sunset, marking the location of the blaze.

Responding to the scene, the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department arrived as the fire had consumed a second-floor bedroom. During the course of their efforts, the explosion was heard, with the origin and the cause still being under investigation.

An occupant, identified by the landlord only as "Justin," was reportedly found deceased in the house. Only in his 30s, he had just returned from a two-month stay in the hospital according to Fox 5 San Diego. Other occupants lived in the house including Thanh Nguyen, the landlord, his wife, and his fifth child.

Upon hearing the news of the fire, Nguyen, who was at work at the time, was swiftly advised by his wife and tenants to come home. Luckily, all of the other tenants were able to evacuate the property unharmed. Unfortunately, the house has since been deemed unlivable.

The Metro Arson Strike Force has commenced an investigation into the origin of the fire. The battalion chief currently suspects no foul play as noted by NBC San Diego
