Late Tuesday night, an unfortunate collision occurred between a vehicle and two pedestrians crossing a street, ultimately resulting in the death of one woman and leaving a man in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to WGN-TV.
The Lake County Coroner's Office identified the deceased as 37-year-old Liliia Leshchenko of Mundelein.
Preliminary autopsy results indicate that she died from blunt force injuries as a result of the crash. The other pedestrian, a 39-year-old man, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. They were both found on the west side of Butterfield Road, south of Canterbury Lane.
Investigators say the pedestrians were walking west and the vehicle, driven by a 67-year-old man, was traveling south on Butterfield Road at the time of the collision.
As reported by Fox 32 Chicago, the driver emerged from the incident unscathed and is cooperating with the authorities during the ongoing investigation.
