A 21-year-old woman from New Hampshire had a brush with death as she drove on a Maine highway yesterday, when a large shard of rusted metal smashed through her windshield, coming to a stop merely inches away from her face according to Boston Globe. The terrifying incident took place near Mile 61 on the Maine Turnpike in Gray, as reported by the WMTW.
The young driver told police that the sequence of events was triggered when a vehicle in front of her ran over a piece of metal road debris, which then flew up into the air.
The sharp metal found its way into her Jeep Wrangler's windshield, coming to rest just inches away from her face.
Despite the chaos, the driver managed to maintain her composure and pull over safely to the side of the road. She sustained only minor injuries and was checked out by paramedics who arrived at the scene. Maine State Police helped her reunite with her family after the ordeal, and traffic on the Maine Turnpike was briefly disrupted for approximately an hour.
