The annual Taste of Chicago is just around the corner with an exciting lineup of mouth-watering culinary treats and entertainment. This year's Taste of Chicago is set to take place from September 8th to September 10th, shifting from its usual July timing due to the NASCAR Street Race earlier in the summer according to NBC Chicago.
Staying true to its roots near Grant Park's Buckingham Fountain, the iconic food festival will showcase over 35 vendors and 15 food trucks. In addition, there will be three stages for musical performances, dance classes, and more with the return of the fan-favorite Eli's Cheesecake celebration.
For the adult participants, the festival offers a beer hall, wine garden, cocktail lounge, and a new frozen adult beverage station. Families will also find bounce houses and a variety of games to keep kiddos entertained.
Mayor Brandon Johnson shared his enthusiasm: “Since 1980, Taste of Chicago has been a beloved tradition showcasing our city’s incredible culinary and cultural offerings. I’m thrilled to invite Chicagoans and visitors alike to Grant Park once again to enjoy familiar Taste of Chicago favorites, new vendor additions and exciting entertainment for everyone to enjoy."
Of course, it wouldn't be a proper Taste of Chicago event without the massive Eli's Cheesecake giveaway to celebrate their birthday. A 1,000-pound cheesecake prepared with 450 pounds of cream cheese, 70 pounds of sugar, 25 pounds of cherry glaze, and 100 pounds of buttercream icing (just to mention a few ingredients) will be sliced and handed out to guests while supplies last according to NBC Chicago.
Apart from the massive cheesecake, other food vendors at the event include Sapori Trattoria, Cumin Club Indian Kitchen, Arun’s Thai Restaurant, The Original Rainbow Cone, Healthy Substance Kitchen, Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria, and Billy Goat Tavern as stated by Urban Matter.
The Taste of Chicago isn't only about indulging your taste buds, it also promises a whole lot of entertainment. The Main Stage Schedule kicks off on Friday, September 8th with Slique Jay Adams and Mamii, followed by Meagan McNeal, and headlined by Masters of the Mic: Hip Hop 50, featuring rap legends like Doug E. Fresh, EPMD, KRS-One, and Slick Rick according to Urban Matter. Subsequent days will feature performances by ÉSSO, Lupita Infante, Proyecto Uno, Nola Adé, White Mystery, and Whitney, among others.
For those looking to embrace their dancing moves, Chicago SummerDance will also be hosting classes and open dancing sessions at the event. The schedule includes line dancing with Fre2Dance, Peruvian Folk Dance with the Center of Peruvian Arts, Reggaeton with Latin Street, Bollywood with Meher Dance Company, Bachata with Desueño Dance, and much more.
With such a diverse lineup of food vendors, entertainment acts, and engaging activities, it's no wonder that the Taste of Chicago continues to be a much-anticipated tradition. This year's event promises a memorable experience for both locals and visitors looking to explore Chicago's vibrant culinary and cultural scene. So, clear your calendars and let your taste buds guide you to the Taste of Chicago 2023!
