Another firearm has been taken off the streets of Boston, this time following a traffic stop in Dorchester. Earlier today, officers from District B3 in Mattapan arrested 24-year-old Troy Bascom of Roxbury on firearm-related charges. According to the Boston Police Department's news release, police officers stopped a vehicle with a revoked license plate and discovered a loaded semi-automatic Glock 30 pistol, with one round in the chamber and nine rounds in the magazine capable of holding ten rounds of ammunition.
Bascom has now been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition, and is expected to be arraigned at Dorchester District Court.
In a separate incident earlier this year, a WCVB report detailed the arrest of a suspect involved in the shooting of a seven-year-old girl in Dorchester; a horrifying event that shook the local community.
Moreover, this ongoing struggle against illegal firearms and their devastating consequences is not isolated to Boston. In cities across the United States, law enforcement agencies are grappling with this crisis, striving to protect citizens from the violence that too often erupts.
