A 40-year-old woman in New Haven, Alexandra Polino, handed herself over to authorities, when her 10-month-old baby's death was revealed as a homicide due to drug ingestion, including fentanyl as stated in WWLP report. Responding to the distress call on June 28, emergency services discovered the unconscious infant; transported to Yale New Haven Hospital, the baby later succumbed to the deadly drug cocktail according to NH Register.
This tragedy happened on Farren Avenue, and it got the Special Victims Unit Detectives on the case, diving deep into the investigation. According to an affidavit, Alexandra Polino had informed the police of finding her baby cold and unresponsive around noon; at the same time, a neighboring medical call caused Lieutenant Patrick Sheiffele to bear witness to the chaotic scene. Sheiffele reported hearing a woman, later identified as the baby's cousin, yell for assistance while cradling the lifeless baby as reported by WTNH.
Although the Medical Examiner deemed the baby's fatality a homicide caused by drug ingestion, a WTNH report reveals that an arrest warrant for Polino had only been signed on September 15, nearly three months after the incident. Facing first-degree manslaughter and two counts of risk of injury charges, Polino now carries a bond amounting to $250,000 according to NH Register.
Alexandra Polino's legal battle has only begun, as she awaits her next court appearance scheduled for November 8 as stated in WWLP report.
