East Chicago resident Yobany Bailon allegedly drove under the influence and caused chaos in his neighborhood by crashing into several parked cars and two houses on Saturday, Septmebr 9th. According to the Fox 32 Chicago report, police responded to the incident at around 3:07 a.m., where they found Bailon being restrained by witnesses at the scene.
Witnesses told the police that Bailon had tried to flee the scene of the accident. Police officers detected a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and observed bloodshot eyes and soiled pants on Bailon. When confronted about his driver's license, Bailon claimed he had none, but an ID was later found in his pocket. In a slurred speech, Bailon reportedly told the officers, "My brother is a cop. Just take me home." However, Bailon refused to submit to a field sobriety test or take a breathalyzer multiple times, as reported by the Chicago Tribune.
Bailon has been charged with operating a motor vehicle without a driver's license and operating a vehicle while intoxicated. This is not Bailon's first encounter with driving-related offenses. Chicago Tribune reveals that, in 2009, he was charged with operating a motor vehicle without ever having a license, though the charge was dismissed in 2020. He has also faced charges related to driving while his license or permit was suspended or revoked, failure to provide vehicle registration certificates, speeding and driving while suspended.
