California Clean Air Day, happening on Wednesday, October 4, presents an opportunity for citizens to come together for a cleaner and healthier California. According to a SANDAG article, the statewide initiative encourages residents to pledge and utilize sustainable transportation options—such as carpooling, vanpooling, public transit, biking, or walking—on this day.
Environmental conservation is not unique to California, but the state has seen marked progress in recent years, as reported by SANDAG on Twitter. By pledging and taking meaningful actions to reduce their carbon footprint on California Clean Air Day, individuals can showcase their commitment to addressing air quality concerns.

The process is a simple three-step journey for prospective participants. Firstly, take the California Clean Air Day Pledge by October 4. Secondly, choose one or more pledge actions to engage in, then finally take action and commute using your chosen method on October 4. Pledge participants aged 18 years and older will also be eligible for a Clean Air Day sweepstakes, providing them with a chance to win a prize.
Several promotional offers are available on Clean Air Day. For instance, users can ride Neighborhood Electric Vehicles (NEVs) for free by downloading the Circuit app. Shared mobility options such as BCycle and Bird are also offering free rides with promo codes, while the g'Oside Shuttle in Oceanside will grant free services on October 4.
Furthermore, the initiative encourages employers to involve their employees in the clean air movement. Participating organizations in the SANDAG Employer Commuter Program are eligible to earn one Diamond Awards point for taking the pledge and another for hosting an event or activity on Clean Air Day. Schools, local governments, libraries, and other organizations are also invited to host and promote Clean Air Day events, contributing to cleaner air and healthier communities.
