Over the weekend, an incident in Harvey, Illinois brought the issue of unlicensed firearm possession among juveniles to the forefront. Yesterday morning, September 26, Cook County Sheriff's Police reported that they successfully recovered two firearms during a patrol in the area. Of particular concern was the fact that one of these weapons had a defaced serial number, rendering it untraceable and further complicating matters. Both juveniles were found to be without a valid license for possessing firearms and subsequently referred to the Juvenile Detention Center, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office.
The timely intervention by Cook County Sheriff's Police in this instance likely prevented the potential misuse, of these recovered firearms.
