A staggering amount of stolen makeup led to the arrest of two suspects in San Carlos, California yesterday. Hajar Soumbati, 22, and Marwa Abdalla, 19, both San Francisco residents, allegedly stole more than $1,000 worth of makeup from a CVS store in San Carlos, as well as thousands more from other CVS stores in San Mateo County and the East Bay, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

It was around 7 p.m. on Labor Day when San Mateo County sheriff's deputies received a call reporting the shoplifting at the CVS store on the 1300 block of San Carlos Avenue. Witnesses described the suspects fleeing in a black Mercedes four-door sedan, which the deputies were able to locate soon thereafter. The suspects were positively identified by witnesses as the shoplifters at the store and were taken into custody without incident.

Upon searching the vehicle, deputies discovered makeup valued at over $1,000 stolen from the San Carlos CVS, in addition to makeup estimated at $5,000-$6,000 stolen from other CVS stores in San Mateo County and the East Bay.

Both Soumbati and Abdalla were charged with organized retail theft, shoplifting, and conspiracy and both women were expected to appear in court today.
