In a disquieting night for the city of Chicago, four armed robberies were reported within minutes of each other on Sunday. The incidents involved the use of a white SUV as perpetrators targeted individuals walking on sidewalks, at once creating an atmosphere of unease among residents.
The first recorded robbery occurred on the 1700 block of W. Hubbard at approximately 11:15 p.m. when a 31-year-old male was approached by three males who exited the white SUV. At gunpoint, they took his cell phone and wallet before fleeing the scene. Thankfully, the victim escaped uninjured according to the Chicago Police Department.
Shortly after, at around 11:40 p.m., a similar incident transpired on the 1400 block of N. Halsted. This time, a 27-year-old female was robbed at gunpoint by four males exiting the same described white SUV. As with the previous incident, the victim, although not injured, was robbed of her purse.
Tragically, the trend continued that night, as two more similar incidents occurred involving a white SUV and victims walking on Chicago sidewalks. On the 900 block of W. Armitage, a 42-year-old female was similarly robbed of her purse at gunpoint. This event happened roughly around 11:00 p.m., just before the aforementioned incidents on W. Hubbard and N. Halsted, suggesting a spree of interconnected robberies.
In another unfortunate robbery, a 56-year-old male and a 60-year-old female walking on the 600 block of W. Armitage were approached by four armed assailants from a white SUV. The couple was robbed at gunpoint, as the perpetrators made away with their phones and a wallet, around 11:20 p.m.
As the investigation into these interconnected robberies continues, the Chicago Police Department's Area Three detectives are diligently searching for the assailants.
