Earlier this week, officers assigned to the Drug Control Unit of Jamaica Plain arrested 22-year-old Kerlin Castillo of Dorchester, who now faces drug trafficking charges, according to a statement from the Boston Police Department.

The arrest followed an ongoing drug investigation and the execution of search warrants in the area of Browning Avenue. Officers recovered approximately 70 grams of cocaine and 30 grams of fentanyl.

Castillo was charged with Trafficking of Class A and Trafficking of Class B, with an expected arraignment in Dorchester District Court.

Amidst the ongoing fentanyl crisis, the presence of significant amounts of the drug alongside other, less deadly drugs like cocaine is a cause for concern. Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid, is far more potent than heroin, estimated to be 50 to 100 times stronger.
