Postal workers in Chicago have found themselves the targets of armed robberies this last week. Over the course of one week, two similar incidents have unfolded in the city. According to the Chicago Police Department, the unknown assailant has struck twice on the 3200 block of West Huron, once on September 16 at 10:28 AM and more recently on September 22 at 10:50 AM.
Both times, the armed perpetrator approached the unsuspecting postal carrier and announced the robbery, while brandishing a handgun, before taking possession of the postal property. The offender is described as an African American male, aged between 15 to 21 years old, with a height of 5’00” to 5’11” and weighing between 110 to 160 lbs. During both crimes, the culprit donned hooded sweatshirts, and black ski masks, making it difficult for witnesses to identify any distinctive features.
The alarming nature of these incidents has compelled the Chicago Police Department to issue a community alert, offering guidance to residents and potential witnesses. The advice underscores the importance of prioritizing personal safety above property and urges individuals to remember key identifying marks such as scars, limps, and acne, per the alert. Moreover, it cautions against pursuing assailants, instead asking witnesses to report their observations to the authorities and to call 911 at the earliest opportunity.
