Law enforcement agents came across Freddy Rodriguez, a 38-year-old from West Warwick, Rhode Island, last week as he was hiding drugs in his kayak. According to NBC Boston, federal agents first encountered Rodriguez behind a rented campsite in Highgate, Vermont, near the border of Canada.
He was spotted walking towards the shoreline with a bag in hand. Upon hearing that a vessel had entered US waters from Canada and was heading southward, agents watched as Rodriguez began quickly loading brick-like packages into a kayak.
Following the confrontation, the man from Rhode Island encountered significant trouble in his endeavor to get away.
As reported on MyNBC5, the packages he tried to load onto his kayak contained 26 pounds of cocaine, which, upon the discovery and subsequent arrest, would lead to a charge of possession with intent to distribute. If convicted, he could face a prison sentence ranging between five and 40 years, as mentioned by Fox News.
