As roads across the nation strive for safety, Contra Costa County Public Works has commenced the Franklin Canyon Road Safety Improvement Project starting on September 18. This initiative, spanning from Cummings Skyway to Dutra Road, aims to upgrade the infrastructure on the 3.41-mile unincorporated segment of Franklin Canyon Road in the Martinez area. Centerline rumble strips, traffic striping, and pavement markers are to be introduced, with work slated to finish by October 20, weather permitting, according to the Contra Costa County Public Works.
The project's fundamentals involve the installation of a 12-inch center-line rumble strip throughout the length of the road, accompanied by the re-establishment of striping using thermoplastic paint. These modifications are expected to contribute significantly to the overall safety and driving experience for residents and commuters, as detailed on the Contra Costa County website.
Drivers traversing this route should be prepared for certain restrictions during construction hours, specifically between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday. To minimize hindrances to the public, efforts are being made to mitigate impact during commute hours, with message boards posted in the area to inform drivers of the scheduled work. Responsible management of the project falls under the purview of Project Manager Bill King, working in collaboration with the contractor, Chrisp Company, in the process of enhancing Franklin Canyon Road.
The Franklin Canyon Road Safety Improvement Project has been allocated a budget of $324,000, paid for by a combination of State HSIPSL Funds and Local Road Funds. The timely commencement of work has followed the project's pre-established schedule, ensuring progress is being made towards a safer, more efficient road.
