Yesterday, Lufthansa announced a significant increase in nonstop service between San Diego International Airport (SAN) and Munich, Germany via Franz Josef Strauss International Airport (MUC).

Marking a momentous recovery from the pandemic's harrowing blow, the number of San Diego–Europe passengers currently stands at an impressive 12 percent higher than in pre-pandemic 2019 as per the San Diego International Airport report. To cater to the escalating demand in the region, Lufthansa aims to launch five-times-weekly service in April 2024, and further increase to daily service by June 2024. Currently, the airline serves this key route thrice a week.

According to Kimberly Becker, San Diego County Regional Airport Authority President and CEO, Munich is and has always been one of the top international destinations for travelers. She states, "Seeing Lufthansa expand its service frequency to daily flights next year will provide even more opportunities for leisure and business travel, and will support continued economic growth in both regions."

Lufthansa's Airbus A350-900, with 293 seats and renowned as one of the most modern and fuel-efficient long-haul planes in the world, arrives as a tangible manifestation of the airline's commitment to increased connectivity and environmental responsibility. Such dedication resonates strongly with Lufthansa Group's mission – to connect people, cultures, and economies globally in the most sustainable manner possible – as articulated by Dirk Janzen, Vice President Passenger Sales, The Americas, Lufthansa Group Airlines.

A cosmopolitan city marked by its rich history, Munich offers a wealth of culturally and historically significant sites, alongside a thriving art and culinary scene that beckons travelers from afar. As if in response to this magnetic attraction, SAN currently serves a total of 10 international destinations, with Munich joining the ranks of popular European routes London and Paris.

It might be recalled that Lufthansa previously offered nonstop flights to Frankfurt, Germany; however, service had to be suspended in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Now, it offers greater travel opportunities for its customers across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and beyond.
