Yesterday, amidst the rush hour of a busy day, at the San Diego-Coronado Bridge, a tiny red tabby kitten, believed to be around 10 weeks old, found itself in a predicament that ultimately led to a three-car crash and a rescue.

The incident unfolded around 8:30 AM when a motorist stopped their vehicle on the bridge to attempt a rescue of the frightened kitten in the eastbound lanes. Unfortunately, due to the stopped vehicle, two other cars collided with it, resulting in minor injuries to the drivers and a traffic backup on the iconic bridge. The City of Coronado Police Department reported on their Facebook page that Coronado firefighters and Corporal Hutchens found the uninjured kitten hiding in the Zipper, a moveable center divide.

Following the crash, both eastbound lanes were closed for about 20 minutes, with police reopening one lane to help alleviate the backlog. Even after both lanes were cleared around 9:30 AM, it took an additional couple of hours for traffic to return to normal, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

The fortunate kitten was transported to the Paws of Coronado Animal Shelter, where it will be cared for until it is either claimed by an owner or placed for adoption in three days' time.
