On Monday, Efren Loredo, a 49-year-old resident of San Jose, California, was apprehended and arrested by the San José Police Department (SJPD) for his involvement in a series of bomb threats and swatting calls targeting various locations, including schools in San Jose, Redwood City, and even as far as Kansas City, Missouri, according to the SJPD news release.
For the uninitiated, swatting is a dangerous and potentially lethal form of harassment where a perpetrator uses false information to provoke a massive emergency response, often involving a SWAT team, to target specific individuals or locations.
The San Jose Police Department also reported that there were bomb threats at Yerba Buena High School and within the San Jose Unified School District. As it relates to this case, SJPD reported that the suspect claimed to reside at the targeted residential address and threatened to blow up the schools. The same suspect proceeded to make more threats and execute swatting calls in the areas of Redwood City, California, and Kansas City, Missouri.
In this particular case, Loredo, identified as the ex-boyfriend of a woman living at the initially targeted residential address, had an active felony warrant for his arrest for making threats against her and her current husband.
