Residents near Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton now brace themselves to continuously endure the booming sounds of explosive munitions fire. According to an official FB post of Camp Pendleton, live-fire mortar and artillery training will be conducted from September 16 to 24, starting from as early as 6 a.m. and ending around midnight. The sound of these explosions is not to be taken lightly, as it can quite easily be amplified by environmental factors, reaching distances of up to 50 miles away.
According to the MCB Camp Pendleton website, this training is essential for maintaining the readiness of the corps and ensures that they are well-prepared for combat situations. Moreover, the base conducts these operations in accordance with guidelines that help minimize environmental impact. However, one can't help but think about the consequences these operations may have on the people living within the sonic reach of these explosions.
