Early yesterday morning, Southbridge Police received a call reporting multiple stabbings at the Pleasant Street business. Officers discovered both victims at the scene, one with a chest wound and the other having suffered a hand laceration. Thankfully, they were transported to a nearby hospital, and their injuries were deemed non-life-threatening as reported on this week in Worcester.
Swift action was taken as witnesses came forward and provided valuable information that eventually led to the suspect’s apprehension. The authorities were able to identify the 31-year-old Southbridge resident, Jose Luis Mandujano, as their prime suspect. Acting on this knowledge, they tracked him down to his home and initiated the tense standoff that culminated in Mandujano's arrest.
As per another MassLive article, the suspect did not go down without a fight, engaging in a brief but intense struggle with the officers. Ultimately, the police secured the suspect, who now faces a slew of charges for his actions. He's charged with assault with intent to commit a felony to wit murder, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct, and disturbing the peace.
Jose Luis Mandujano is now being held on a $25,040 cash bail and is scheduled for arraignment at the Dudley District Court on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 as WHDH reported earlier. The charges brought against him reflect the severity of the incident, and his arrest is undoubtedly a significant step forward in ensuring the safety of the Southbridge community.
