While areas of New Hampshire and Maine are expected to experience lighter showers, significant rainfall and possible flooding may occur in Connecticut and parts of Rhode Island and western Massachusetts.
Scattered showers persist through Friday with the heaviest rain likely descending upon central and western Massachusetts this morning, before gradually moving towards eastern Massachusetts in the afternoon. The steadiest localized rainfall is anticipated between tonight and Saturday morning. As dry air slowly pushes towards the coastline on Saturday morning, areas north and west of Boston, such as Worcester, are expected to remain generally dry after early morning drizzles, with Boston itself forecasted to experience dry weather in the afternoon according to Boston 25 News.
Meanwhile, the Cape will face continuous rain throughout the day, with an eventual reprieve arriving Saturday evening. The highest rainfall totals are predicted for the Cape, Islands, and the South Coast, with accumulations ranging from 1 to 2 inches over the next two days. Notably, as NBC Boston reported, areas such as Lowell, Lawrence, Newburyport, Nashua, and Portsmouth are expected to be spared from the brunt of the rainfall, with only light sprinkles possible.
For residents not so lucky, gusty winds accompanying the rain may become a concern, especially on the Outer Cape and Nantucket. Gusts could exceed 30 mph on Saturday morning, adding to the meteorological challenges faced by the region.
Despite the damp commencement to the weekend, the stormy weather is predicted to give way to a pleasant end. As the rain departs the Cape, skies will gradually clear from north to south, and Sunday is poised to bring sunny skies and a warm embrace with temperatures reaching the 70s, and expected to also persist through next week.
