Earlier this week, a gunshot victim's report led Springfield police officers to an apartment on Lionel Benoit Road. They discovered a 17-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds and three suspects still present at the scene.
The victim later succumbed to his injuries, and the investigation by Springfield Police Homicide Unit resulted in charges of murder for 20-year-old Xavier Rivera and 18-year-old Luis Reyes-Santiago.
Following the suspects' arrest, a thorough examination of the case revealed a series of misdemeanors linked to the firearms involved in the incident.
Reyes-Santiago and Rivera now face multiple charges, including carrying a firearm without a license, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, and possession of ammunition without an FID card, in addition to the initial murder charge.
