Today a carjacking and vicious attack on a 62-year-old rideshare driver in the Chinatown neighborhood of Chicago occured. A teenage girl, just 17 years old, now faces serious charges for her alleged involvement in this brutal crime, as reported by Fox32. The video footage of the assault captured around 5:45 pm last week reveals the victim, Danxin Shi, being forcibly taken to the ground by two females, and soon after, a third individual joins in the attack. Adding to the horror, one of the assailants struck Shi with a pipe while he was down. The attackers swiftly took the victim's car keys, entered his vehicle, and sped away, with Shi attempting to halt their escape by stepping in front of the car.
Police arrested the 17-year-old girl the following Wednesday in the Fuller Park neighborhood. Her charges include one count of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a weapon and one count of aggravated battery of a victim over 60 years old, both felonies. Her identity has not been released due to her status as a juvenile. The teen was apprehended at South Wentworth Avenue.
Following the incident, the victim, a longtime resident of Chinatown, spoke out about his ordeal and the sudden ambush that left him bruised and battered. Danxin Shi, who has lived in an apartment on West 22nd Place for more than a decade, can no longer work as a rideshare driver due to the loss of his vehicle. In an interview, Shi described the chaotic moments, saying that the three girls "holding me, you know, three people, three girls hitting and beating me." According to the same report on ABC7, he also added that his attackers forcefully took his car key from him.
As reported by Fox32, Capt. Mike Poppish from Chicago Police Department’s 9th District, commended the bravery of the victim, explaining that "sometimes what we need as a police department is people that are not afraid to step forward and tell their story."
