At around 8:23 p.m. on September 15th, 2023, Corona police responded to reports of a shooting at Promenade Park, located at 615 Richey Street, according to KTLA.
Upon arrival, officers found an 18-year-old male, whose identity has not been released, with gunshot wounds in both of his legs. The suspects had fled the scene by the time the authorities arrived. The young man was transported to a local hospital, where, at the time of reporting, he remains in stable condition.
Authorities from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, the Riverside Police Department, and the Corona Police Department were all present for the canvassing of the park and the surrounding areas. The exhaustive search led to the discovery of three teenagers hiding in a field next to the park— a 14-year-old and two 16-year-olds, as reported by Yahoo News.
Authorities took the three teens into custody and identified them as the suspects involved in the shooting. A handgun, believed to have been used in the incident, was also recovered near the scene. One of the 16-year-olds was arrested on charges of attempted murder and conspiracy, while the other two juveniles were taken into custody on charges of conspiracy alone. Their names have not been released due to their minor status.
All three suspects have been transported to Riverside County Juvenile Hall as the investigation continues into the motive behind the shooting. At this point, authorities believe the incident to be isolated, and there are no other suspects outstanding, as mentioned in San Bernardino Sun.
