San Diego and its residents gear up to welcome the 39th Annual Coastal Cleanup Day, an initiative that has people around the world joining forces to free our coasts from litter and debris. Registrations are now open for this spirited event on cleanupday.org, so it's time for you to decide which site you will grace with your volunteering prowess according to their Facebook post.

Founded in 1954 as the San Diego War Against Litter Committee (WALC), I Love A Clean San Diego (ILACSD) has expanded its horizons to aim for a zero waste, litter-free, and environmentally engaged San Diego region per their website. The event, organized at a state-wide level in cooperation with the California Coastal Commission and supported by #CleanCA, is the fruit of the labor of ILACSD, a nonprofit that serves about 100,000 students, adults, and businesses every year. The organization takes pride in empowering each person to become leaders in conservation and waste-free living and is committed to influencing local and global communities by example, outreach, and active involvement.

Throughout its decades-long journey, ILACSD has organized an astounding 900 workshops and hosted 600 community cleanups annually, clearing nearly half a million pounds of pollution from the region. The impact of their comprehensive approach to environmental care is visible in the community's dedication to upholding ILACSD's mission. Besides focusing on environmental awareness, ILACSD understands the necessity of integrating DEI values into the organization's internal and external operations, as well as addressing inequity to strengthen the impact of their mission.
