Yesterday, an unknown male teenager entered the Pelham High School building, leading to a brief yet intense lockdown of all three schools in the region. The student, clad in a tie-dye shirt, was neither known to other students at the school nor any staff members. A staff member questioned the unidentified teenager, at which point he immediately fled from the scene, as reported by Boston 25 News.
This incident brought about a coordinated response between the principals of all three affected schools and the police. Lockdowns were enacted across the schools, out of an abundance of caution and in the interest of ensuring the safety of every student and staff member. As Yahoo News mentioned, by 10:20 a.m., it had been determined that there was no imminent threat within any of the schools, and the decision to transition from lockdown to "clear hallways" was made in consultation with the police.
At 10:35 a.m., the unknown teenager was identified, and it was determined that he was no longer in the area. Shortly afterward, schools gradually returned to normal operations. The police continue their attempts to make contact with the individual and urge those with any information to reach out to them at 603-635-2411 or submit anonymous tips.
Pelham School District Superintendent Eric McGee emphasized the critical role of communication in events like these. In a statement cited by Boston 25 News, McGee reminded families and staff to check their contacts within the ‘School Messenger’ system to ensure accuracy.
