On August 23rd, a group of children participating in the Biocitizen Inc. summer program stumbled upon a macabre find on an island nestled between Greenfield and Montague in the Connecticut River. The discovery led to the unfolding of a dark mystery that has haunted the town of Greenfield since 2020, according to Boston.com.
The intrepid young explorers first spotted the bones while they trekked through the island, initially thinking they belonged to a deer. This assumption was challenged upon further investigation: a human skull was found among the remains, and authorities were alerted immediately according to Hoodline.
After a thorough examination, the remains were identified as those of 57-year-old Brian Cornwell, a Greenfield resident who had been reported missing in December 2020, reported by NECN. The cause of Cornwell's death, however, remains to be determined.
As the investigation into Cornwell's death continues, local and state authorities are diligently working together to ascertain both the cause of his death.
