Yesterday, Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price launched an awareness campaign at Oakland International Airport to address human trafficking. This effort includes billboards and digital videos positioned throughout the airport to increase the visibility of this issue.
Alameda County stands as the third highest region for human trafficking in the U.S., underlining the severity and proximity of this crime, according to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. The campaign is a response to the challenges faced in counteracting this crime, particularly in assisting vulnerable victims and prosecuting hidden offenses.
Using QR codes and messages, the campaign provides access to extensive resources for victims and potential allies, including travelers, airport employees, and the general public. This collaborative approach is reflected in the campaign's support, which includes survivors, advocates, Deputy District Attorneys, Inspectors, community partners, law enforcement representatives, and elected officials. Oakland City Council President, Nikki Fortunato Bas, voiced her endorsement, highlighting the need for collective action.
